Alemeda and Doechii Threaten ‘Beat AB!tch Up’ in Their New Punk Collaboration

Top Dawg Entertainment may well have had a reputation as one of rap music’s top record labels over the past decade, but that doesn’t mean rap is all they do. The label is also home to Alemeda, an unapologetic alternative rocker who isn’t afraid to tackle the “black girls don’t make guitar music” stereotype. She has a new EP on the way, and today she released a video for her defiant single, “Beat AB!tch Up,” featuring labelmate Doechii.

It’s a smart collaboration between two innovative Black women who refuse to shrink to fit into the various boxes the world tries to put them into. Both are also exactly the type that lives up to the song’s fight title. In the video, the pair organize a probably unauthorized boxing match on the deck of a ship and jet ski around the harbor – some real rock star shit. The video ends with a fireworks display over the boat as Alemeda screams into the microphone and headbangs alongside her all-female backing band.

The single will appear on Alemeda’s upcoming EP But what the hell do I knowscheduled for release on November 7th, distributed by Warner Records.
