Film adaptations of video games can be hit or miss, but the Five Nights at Freddy’s The 2023 film was a huge financial success, grossing just under $300 million against a budget of just $20 million. Well, there’s more source material in the game series and money really does talk, so a sequel is on the way.
Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard and others are back, reprising their roles from the first film, while Seinfeld and Jurassic Park icon Wayne Knight is among the additions to the cast this time around.

Plot
An official description says:
“A year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Stories about what happened there have been turned into exaggerated local legend, inspiring the town’s first Fazfest. Former bouncer Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have hidden the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), about their friends’ fates. animatronics. But when Abby runs away to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy, it sets in motion a series of terrifying events, revealing dark secrets about Freddy’s true origins and unleashing a horror long forgotten and hidden for decades.
In a recent interviewMatthew Lillard said of the film: “I think the narrative was expanded a lot. […] I really think the movie learned the first time, I think Scott, as the main storyteller, listened to the audience. [It’s] what he does best. He knows this community so well. And I think he responded with a script that… maybe has more scares. Maybe it will be a little more action-packed. I don’t know. I’m not here to say ‘yes it is’ or ‘no it isn’t’. But I think the fans are going to love the next movie, and I think they’re going to be really excited for December.”
Cast
The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, Theodus Crane, Skeet Ulrich, Mckenna Grace, Teo Briones, Freddy Carter and Wayne Knight.
Jason Blum, co-founder of production company Blumhouse Productions, said in an interview from the movie “Scott [Cawthon] He’s been an extraordinary partner for me in making these films. [Director Emma Tammi]Matthew and the cast are back, but I’m working now with a Scott who has been through the process, so he really has a magical superpower and is very, very close to those films. He’s kind of a guiding light for these films and the reason fans respond to the films the way they do is because Scott is involved in every aspect of them and I’m very grateful to him for that.”
Release date
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 5th.
