A night out turned into tragedy in South Carolina after gunfire erupted in a crowded bar, leaving 4 dead and at least 20 injured.
According to authorities, the shooting began late Saturday night and early Sunday at Willie’s Bar & Grill on St. Helena Island, where hundreds of people were gathered. When first responders arrived, they found a large, chaotic crowd and several victims with gunshot wounds.
Authorities say four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while four others are fighting for their lives in critical condition at the hospital.
Witnesses told investigators that when the shooting began, terrified customers ran for cover, with several fleeing to nearby businesses and homes to escape the gunfire.
It remains unclear what sparked the shooting or whether anyone was taken into custody. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to identify the suspect(s).
