Tom Blyth compared his people we met on vacation to Meg Ryan, and I agree with him 100%

When you look back best romantic comedies of all timeone actress who appears in some of them is Meg Ryan. Of When Harry met Sally to Sleepless in Seattleshe is a generational talent and a megastar in this genre. Well, this is important because Tom Blyth, who stars in next adaptation of the book to the screen from Emily Henry’s romantic comedy People we met on vacation, recently compared his co-star Emily Bader to Ryan. And here’s the thing, I already agree 100% with him.

What Tom Blyth said about Meg Ryan and her co-star Emily Bader

Fortunately, in the first few weeks of 2026 Movie Scheduleon January 9th, to be exact, we will see the first Adaptation by Emily Henry always, People we met on vacation. The film will star Tom Blyth and Emily Bader as Alex and Poppy, respectively, and people can’t wait to watch this friends-to-lovers romance with a Netflix Subscription.

So, in anticipation of the launch of People we met on vacation, People asked Blyth about working on the film. In response, he praised his co-star and compared her to Meg Ryan:

I remember, because my favorite romantic comedy is When Harry Met Sally, and I kept saying, ‘Who’s that – we don’t really have a young modern-day Meg Ryan.’ You know, Meg Ryan is still with us, luckily, we still have Meg Ryan. But we need a new Meg Ryan. Who is the new Meg Ryan? And I thought, ‘I don’t know who that is.’ And then I met Emily [Bader]and I thought ‘Oh, that could be Emily.’

Well, that’s high praise! However, it doesn’t end there. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes the star explained why she thinks Bader is the new Meg Ryan, saying:

She has the quality that could be going off the rails, and you’re still so in love with her. She is so captivating. And she’s so fun within the language of the script, and I think she’ll really do the character justice.

Now I realize I didn’t see Blyth and Bader as Alex and Poppy. However, I’m a big fan of Emily Bader’s other work, and based on the footage we’ve seen of this Emily Henry adaptation, I know her co-star is right.

Emily Bader’s work on My Lady Jane and the people we meet in the holiday trailer prove Tom Blyth’s point

Alright, allow me to take you back to 2024 and the tragically short-lived series My Lady Janewhich was led by Emily Bader and can be streamed with a Amazon Prime Subscription. Jane was played by PWMOV actress, and she led that fantastic period romance with passion, sass, intelligence and an incredibly quick wit. Do you know who else has all these endearing qualities? Meg Ryan.

Both actresses are incredibly expressive and play their characters with infectious confidence and passion. You really can’t help but fall in love with Jane and her love story, thanks to Bader’s genuine, romantic, and fun performance, as well as her undeniable chemistry with Edward Bluemel, who plays her character’s love interest. You can say exactly the same things about Meg Ryan, her co-stars, and her films in general.

I think Emily Bader has a spark that Meg Ryan also has, and it seems like Tom Blyth knows it too. However, you can also see it on display in the teaser for People we met on vacation:

I can’t help but draw comparisons between Poppy and Sally, even though Bader’s character is much more outgoing and spontaneous than Ryan’s. Boldness and courage are similar to me, and you can see that on display in this trailer if you look at the way Bader’s character reacts to Blyth’s appearance or while eating. Remind you of a specific dinner scene in When Harry met Sally?

Anyway, all of this is to say that Tom Blyth is right. I 100% think Emily Bader has what it takes to be the next generation Meg Ryan. They are unique and incredibly captivating, and I hope People we met on vacation prove this to everyone who doesn’t already know.
